New hair loss treatments
Written 17 October 2026. A list of what is talked about, and what a UK pharmacy can actually supply.
Written in the UK, for women and men.
As of 17 October 2026, clascoterone, pyrilutamide and GT20029 are not UK-licensed hair-loss medicines. Ritlecitinib is already a NICE-recommended option for some people with severe alopecia areata. Low-dose oral minoxidil remains an off-label blood-pressure tablet. Exosomes and stem-cell procedures are not standard NHS care.
See a GP if hair loss is sudden, patchy, or comes with illness, a rash, or other symptoms. The NHS asks for that conversation before a private clinic.

Dated 17 October 2026. A regulator’s decision is what would change the list below. A conference slide is not that.
What is already a UK decision?
For severe alopecia areata, NICE recommends ritlecitinib from age 12, if the company supplies it under the commercial arrangement. Baricitinib is not recommended for routine NHS commissioning for the same condition. The plain-English page is ritlecitinib on the NHS. These drugs are for alopecia areata, not for a receding hairline.
For pattern hair loss, the NHS position is unchanged: finasteride and minoxidil for men, minoxidil for women, neither universal, neither a cure, neither all available as routine NHS prescriptions.
What is being talked about, and not licensed here?
| Name you will see | Status on the sources we checked |
|---|---|
| Clascoterone (Breezula) | Not a UK-licensed hair-loss medicine in this check. Scalp studies are not a pharmacy product. |
| Pyrilutamide (KX-826) | Investigational in public discussion. No UK hair-loss licence found for this page. |
| GT20029 | Investigational. No UK hair-loss licence found for this page. |
| Low-dose oral minoxidil | Off-label use of a blood-pressure tablet. See the oral minoxidil page. No dose here. |
| Exosomes and stem cells | Not standard NHS care. Private advertising is not evidence. |
Oral minoxidil’s uptake in clinics is real enough to need a page, which is oral minoxidil. The Randolph and Tosti review is the source we quote. It is not a 2026 approval.
What this means if you are buying something this month
Buy the treatments that match the diagnosis you actually have. A patch is not a job for a new androgen cream you cannot get. A pattern is not a job for a stem-cell brochure. If you want a device while you wait on better drugs, red light is the category with published trials, compared on red light hats. It is not one of the medicines in the table.
Common questions
Is Breezula available in the UK?
Clascoterone, discussed as Breezula for pattern hair loss, is not a UK-licensed hair-loss medicine on the sources checked for this page. Do not confuse it with an acne cream sold under another brand in some countries.
What about pyrilutamide and GT20029?
They are investigational names in public discussion. Neither has a UK licence as a hair-loss treatment.
Are exosomes a proven hair treatment?
No. They are not standard NHS care for pattern hair loss. A private clinic advertising them is not a trial.
